Project Overview
Client: Kip, a supermarket-chain operator in Kenya
Products: Electric kettles, mini blenders and USB fans
Services: Supplier sourcing, sample approval, inspection, consolidation, export coordination and sea freight
Outcome: Successful delivery, lower procurement costs and repeat orders
Background
Kip needed several affordable household appliances for his supermarkets in Kenya. Because the local power supply could be unstable, product selection needed to consider electrical specifications, rated power, plug configuration and basic protection features.
Managing the project independently was inefficient. Each product category came from a different factory with its own MOQ, quotation, production schedule and packaging requirements. Kip also faced difficulties collecting goods, checking quality and organizing one combined shipment.
Our Approach
Hinsourcing divided the purchasing list into product groups and matched each category with suitable direct manufacturers.
For electric kettles, we reviewed capacity, materials, rated power, automatic shut-off, boil-dry protection and leakage. Mini blenders were compared according to motor configuration, blades, cups, sealing, controls and accessories. USB fans were evaluated for power input, airflow, speed settings, stability and operating noise.
We collected and coordinated samples so Kip could confirm the selected models before production. Quotations were compared using aligned specifications, packaging and order terms rather than unit price alone.
After sample approval, Hinsourcing followed production across the different factories and coordinated bulk-order inspection. Checks covered model, quantity, electrical information, basic operation, workmanship, accessories, labels and packaging.
Finished goods were collected from multiple factories and consolidated into one shipment. Hinsourcing also coordinated export documents, customs declaration, sea freight and shipment tracking.
Results
Kip sourced multiple appliance categories without managing each factory independently.
Products were selected with consideration for the Kenyan electrical environment and the client’s retail positioning.
Direct manufacturer sourcing and consolidated shipping reduced avoidable purchasing and logistics costs.
The initial order was completed successfully, and the client continued placing repeat orders.
